1 in 7 people (overall) and 1 in 5 children are at risk of hunger in Northwest Ohio. A quarter of Toledo’s population lives in poverty and Toledo Public Schools has the highest rate of homelessness in Ohio with nearly 3,000 homeless students. About one in four children in Lucas County struggle with food insecurity, which is why Connecting Kids to Meals serves about 7,000 meals each day.

The Movement has partnered up with Connecting Kids Meal to Meals on Monday & Wednesday in which we oversee 70 & 75 Kids' lunches per week in the community room at The Greenbelt for the Summer months.

Working With Others In Our Community

The Movement Team partnered with the VProject to educate and sign people up to get their vaccination shot. Initial target area was the 43604, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 & 43620 areas.

Our First Vaccination Clinic

The Movement Team began its first vaccination clinic at the UAW 12 on February 28th, 2021. Over 500 people were vaccinated that day we run out of needles, and as a result, we held a clinic at UAW 12 every 2 weeks and it grow from 500 a clinic to 700 to 1000 per clinic our data and google docs have over 20,000 people that went through The Movement Team for this location.

Greenbelt

The story begins when The Movement Team was in The Greenbelt canvassing for vaccination and saw the living conditions of the resident. The Movement Team made a commitment to help OUR people in the community. We call out to the public for any and all assistance. We reach the media and as a result, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur got involved along with County Commissioner Pete Gerken. We meet with the Owner of Greenbelt and HUD. Currently, we are still on the grounds 5 days a week to help the Owners to get the house condition up to s suitable living standard. We talk to all residents and help with their needs from Mental health, Utility bills, rental assistance and have over 100 people signed up or rental assistance in the 197 Apartment Unit.

Wayman Palmer Community Center Christmas Vaccination

The Movement Team held an event at the Wayman Palmer Community Center. We were able to bring resources to the community by canvassing the nearby Neighborhoods and as a result, we had over close to 2,500 people, parents & kids. 504 adults and children were vaccinated. We had 8 other resource table set up including but not limited to CSB, Mental Health Board, Books for Buddies etc.... we gave out 150 bikes, Christmas gifts, food trucks to feed people for free, and Santa took photos with the kids. We canvassed 43604, 43608, 43610, plus Moody Manor apt, Woodruff Village Apt. We knocked on Hundreds of doors, since then and we have returned to the YMCA Wayman Palmer Community Center many times with other events and will continue to do so.

The Movement Team held its 1st Wayman Palmer Community Center vaccination event with Music & Fun. We were able to bring resources to the community by canvassing the nearby Neighborhoods

Souls To The Polls

The Movement Team worked with local area faith-based organizations and churches to disseminate information regarding voting and planning with the organizations to get people and church members to get registered and to vote. The Movement Team worked with churches to show up during early voting with transportation being provided so they can leave church to vote.
